The Emperors' Bear Cat
The modern Giant Panda, or Bear Cat, is some two to three
million years old.
Imperial palaces maintained pandas to guard against natural disasters and malevolent spirits.
Forget cuddly creatures on treacly greetings cards frolicking among bamboo. These great beasts were symbols of might and bravery.

The political situation today: The Cat speaks
After the turbulence and political excitements of the last three days, The Cat advises tranquillity of mind, reloading of Qi batteries, and, for the body, a relaxing four-hand Chinese Tuina Massage with Anna and Lucy.
Tears of the Stone Forest
According to legend Ashima (阿诗玛) of the Yi People, a woman of surpassing beauty and sweetness of character, was born here in Yunnan Province in China's celebrated Stone Forest.
After falling in love Ashima was forbidden to marry her suitor and was instead turned to stone in the forest that still bears her name. Each year on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, many Yi people celebrate the Torch Festival (火把节 Huǒbă Jié) in memory, it is said, of these sad events.

... as it was when Emperor Xuanzong journeyed there. We see him with his courtiers in a valley. A work after the great Ming painter Qiu Ying (1494-1552).
